Hoffman Estates parkway work, stumps and branch pickup
Parkway trees are pruned on a four- to seven-year cycle, mostly in late fall and winter, and the village's contract for 2026 and 2027 estimates 400 parkway tree removals in each year, with the largest group between 18 and 24 inches in diameter. That contract sets a high bar for stump work: stumps ground 18 inches below grade, surface roots to at least 6 inches, grindings cleared to grade within 10 days, removals finished by November 15 and restorations by December 1. A private crew need not match that depth, but it is a useful reference when a replacement tree is planned; see stump grinding.
Branch pickup runs twice a year by zone. The spring 2026 round began April 20 and the fall round September 21, one week per zone, with branches at the curb by 7 a.m. on the Monday of the zone's week. Pieces can be no larger than 8 inches in diameter or 10 feet long, willow branches go in a separate pile, and stumps, root balls, firewood, lumber and yard waste are refused. Brush beyond those limits, or left from a large removal, needs a crew's chipper or a hauler instead.
